Absolute Power Corrupts

This music was inspired by soon to be released and CANNES 2023 OFFICIAL SELECTION: CALIGULA: THE ULTIMATE CUT. You can see the film September 24th at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX and late September at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, CA. While this track is not in the movie, the instrumentation, sound palette and feel is directly inspired by the film. I composed the film score with a hybrid palette in mind, using organic instruments, percussion as well as found sound, audio manipulation and vintage analog synthesizers. I was posed with the question - what would the score sound like if they composed it in 1979-1980 using the above sound palette with modern-listener and viewer sensibilities? With this in mind, my goal was to underscore the superb performances by Malcolm McDowell, Helen Mirren, Peter O’toole and John Gielgud in this newly resurrected, never before seen footage version of this notorious and hisstorical film. - thank you for listening, Troy Sterling Nies, composer
